This weekend, Samsung?s Gallery Fold will make you wonder if AI can be art

Can something created using AI be considered art? And if so, where is the line beyond which a creation is more AI than human? We can assume so-called “AI slop” will never rise to the rank of art, but how much AI can be used in the creation process and still lead to an art piece?



It's not an easy question, and Samsung isn't trying to answer it. In its latest campaign in the Netherlands, Samsung teamed up with ACE and ten international AI artists to create a pop-up gallery with one simple goal: Not to prove that AI is art, but to show what emerges when artists add AI and technologies to their creative tool belts.



Gallery Fold opens on September 18 in Amsterdam



Gallery Fold will have its doors open at Prinsengracht 526 in Amsterdam from September 18 to September 20.



The gallery will showcase works by ten international AI artists from various countries, each demonstrating in their own way how AI can become a tool that brings the artist's vision to life.

For those who are even more tech-inclined, Gallery Fold will accommodate the Fold Pond. The latter is an interactive installation revolving around the new Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.



At the Fold Pond, visitors will be able to witness how the latest foldable smartphones can become an interactive creative partner. Even better, visitors will be able to try out the latest Galaxy Z8 devices and create their own AI-powered imagery inside the gallery.



Even though Samsung won't answer the big question of whether or not AI-made content can be considered art, the gallery itself might make visitors wonder about that imaginary line between human creativity and AI, and whether AI it can be a legitimate tool or a detriment to the creative process. And in the end, isn't stirring questions one of art's greatest qualities?
