Radio Version/PRI/PRL versions all blank cant update ROM

I have literally been searching all day for someone with a similar problem as mine but have found zilch. Please forgive me and kindly redirect me to the correct thread if this is a repeated problem. I think my problem is quite unique, however.

I recently tried updating my rom from 2.09 to the latest version and something occurred around 10% and I got the rainbow screen. So, I ran Exit Bootloader and my phone started up ok, but then everytime the backlight turned off, the phone wouldnt come back on and id have to hard reset (the green light at the top still blinked).

I checked my device information and my rom version is listed as my original 2.09 but next to radio version, protocol version, prl version, pri version, and ESN there is nothing, absolutely blank!

I have tried reupdating the Rom with the both the new update and the update for 2.09 but it gives me the Error 238 after 1%. I read that this error has only come up for Vista users, and I have windows XP. I believe my Rom was somehow corrupted when trying to update to the new version. My phone still seems to work fine (i can make calls and connect to wi-fi) other than the fact that when I dont use it for a minute the screen shuts off and wont come back on and i have to hard reset (which is obviously a major problem).

Any idea as to what I can do from here? Is there a way I can wipe the slate clean on my memory and upload the original uncorrupted rom without using the RUU (like I said I get error 238) ?

Am i better off going to a sprint store and having them look at it?

no dont go to sprint they will just tell you that you voided warranty.......... i would try to redownload the official rom from www.htc.com and try to reflash and see what that does for you.....

actually i ran into the same problem recently i corrected it by re flashing the stock rom and RE LOCKING the phone. as soon as your phone loads turn off all power management settings both on battery and on plugged in

I downloaded the update from the htc site and tried again...

About 10 seconds after the progress bar came up on the phone and the computer, I get a balloon in the task manager saying that my usb device is not recognized because it has malfunctioned (progress was still 0%). I then got a pop up saying that RUU has encountered a problem and needs to close. At this point my phone went to the rainbow screen. I ran Exit Bootloader to get out of this. My device appears to be reset with no update and all of that device info is still blank (Radio Version, Protocol Version, PRL Version, PRI Version, ESN).

Any other ideas?

run the hard spl unlocker, then flash the HTC ROM, then re lock

How do I relock the phone? Is there another program I need to use to do this?

OK. Another success story...

Everything still wasn't working so I decided to try it all on a friends computer and viola, my rom is updated, and all my info is now there! Thanks to all

A minor issue was that I couldn't get the relocker to update my spl, but Im guessing this isnt a huge deal since I dont plan on ever bringing this bomb to a sprint store right?

doesn't matter just use his pc to relock it.
