Apple may buy 11 million OLED panels from Samsung for its foldable iPhone

Apple hasn't said anything about its first foldable iPhone yet, but the market is convinced that the company is going to launch one at some point in the coming year.



Despite it being a true competitor to Samsung's foldable lineup, the iPhone Fold will also help the company's bottom line, as Samsung is expected to supply millions of OLED panels to Apple for this device.



Apple anticipates good market demand for the first-gen device



A new report out of South Korea claims that Samsung Display will supply around 11 million OLED panels for the foldable iPhone that's due to be launched next year. The volume is believed to be higher than initial expectations. It's a good omen for the advancement of the foldable phone industry.



Samsung Display won't just be providing the internal foldable display. It's also said to supply the same quantity of OLED cover displays for the iPhone Fold. It's further added that Samsung Display will be the exclusive supplier of OLED panels for Apple's foldable iPhone.



The company reportedly plans to manufacture around 10 million units of the device. It's reportedly a book-style foldable not unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 7, with a 7.58-inch foldable panel and a 5.35-inch cover display.



It's unclear precisely when Apple intends to launch its foldable iPhone next year. The company typically launches its new phones towards the fall each year. It remains to be seen whether the iPhone Fold will be lumped into that release window or if Apple will opt for more distance between its first foldable and its regular new iPhones.
