Custom Start Icon/Battery/Speaker and EV 1X Icons

Decided to consolidate all the information in one thread on how to change your start menu icon/speaker/battery and Black EV and 1X icons.

Speaker and Battery Icon
1. First install the sdkcerts.cab found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2791165&postcount=1
2. Install Taskbar%20Icons%20v2.cab from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=243
3. Install darklord battery metre v2_fixed.cab from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=324
4. To have your battery meter give you actual % such as 33% instead of in increments of 10 install nuePowerDriverCDMADiamond-100-v1.0-cab.cab

5. To fix the battery % either use a registry editor and change the settings as posted below or install the file from here (no need to do both) http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=512028&postcount=18 (updated 11/11/08 )
6. To fix the HTC Volume Control download the link from here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=512254&postcount=39(Thanks opuscroakus) Open TC and go into /windows rename the HTCVolumeControl.dll to HTCVolumeControl.dll.bak use TC to place the new .dll file into /windows and soft reset. After this you can delete the .bak one. (updated 11/11/08 )

**If you just want the battery meter then download the phcanOverbmp.zip open TC and rename your current one in /windows to phcanOverbmp.dll.bak, change your registry to make it working correctly (see below for settings) once you have done this, drop the new phcanOverbmp.dll you downloaded into /Windows and and softreset. After this you can delete the old .bak one**

Make sure your registry says the following:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\security\ResOver\Bitmaps]
"BatteryIconLevels"=dword:65 (Hex) or 101 (Dec)
"BatteryIconIdStart"=dword:3e9 (Hex) or 1001 (Dec)
"BaseDll"="phcanOverbmp.dll"
"BaseId"=dword:0 updated 11/12/08


For Black EV and 1X Icons
1. For the Black EV and 1X Icons download http://www.filefactory.com/file/ca2339/n/tapres_192_dll use TC to change your old tapres.192.dll to tapres.192.dll.bak then using TC place the downloaded copy into /windows, next soft reset and you can go back in and delete the .bak one




For the Custom Start Menu Icon (If you don't want the HTC Start Icon that comes with Taskbar%20Icons%20v2.cab )
1. Install Icone Demarrer.cab found herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426264
2. The icon I have is found herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2753669&postcount=203 (read post #2 in this link for other custom start icons)
3. You will have to rename whatever one you download from shellres.192.dll.0409.mui to shellres.192.dll , after this open TC and go into /windows rename the current shellres.192.dll to shellres.192.dll .bak or .old then place the one you downloaded and renamed into the /windows and soft reset. Once you have done this then you can go back in and delete the .bak one.


For the Bluetooth Icon
1. I finally got the battery to work, however for the start menu icon when i go to /windows the shell res.192.dll0409 original will not let me rename it or even delete it so i am unable to put my new start mui file there. What am I doing wrong?

have you tried using resco file explorer??? try it with that!!! i should edit, replace that file!! even delete it!!!

yuppers you could use either resco like stated above or you could use total comander also.... i jsut like resco better since it is a easier to navigate file explorer.

this how i did it ..

save your work on your sd card

I used total commander

I go to windows.. i find the file an rename it an add .du at the end

go back to sd card copy an move to windows .. soft reset an your on.

now you can go back to your windows folder an remove the old .du file if you like

after installing a new taskbar theme to my phone, i enjoy all the icons however i would like to have the original colored microsoft windows icon, is there anyway i can find that shellres192 for that icon?

i tried this today and the step number 5 link to ppcgeeks is invalid. just thought i would let you guys know. i went with another set of icons instead.

The only way to have the original MS icon is to install the original shellresXXXX over the one u installed from the taskbar cab.. or request a CUSTOM icon here:

just to make sure I understand this, even if the EV icon is showing i'm still connected to the RevA version of the network correct? all this does is change the icon, but not any network connections correct?

if you have the ev symbol you are getting full rev a speeds... if you asre getting 1x than you have slower speeds or the line is in use like a text message is being sent or an email per instance.

ok, so my registry settings are the same as suggested, but yet my battery indicator in the task bar shows 72% but yet when you click on it and see the actual battery status bar it shows 8 out of 10 bars. anyone else deal with this or have a fix?

Does it stay at 72 or does it go down with time. If it does, its correct. You prolly have to get to 70 percent to show 7 out of 10 bars, then 60 percent for 6 out of 10 bars, ect ect.

why is that odd? if it was the other way and your phone got to 19% the low battery would go off telling you to shut it down or it was going to..... you would lose at least 9% of your battery life each time which in my books would be huge considering if i was at 20% or 1/5 of the battery life left i wouldnt want to drop to 10 and get that warning right away.... just my opinion but in the first posdt get the 1% one if you like that better and it fits your style better.
