Decided to consolidate all the information in one thread on how to change your start menu icon/speaker/battery and Black EV and 1X icons.

Speaker and Battery Icon
1. First install the sdkcerts.cab found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2791165&postcount=1
2. Install Taskbar%20Icons%20v2.cab from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=243
3. Install darklord battery metre v2_fixed.cab from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=324
4. To have your battery meter give you actual % such as 33% instead of in increments of 10 install nuePowerDriverCDMADiamond-100-v1.0-cab.cab

6. To fix the HTC Volume Control download the link from here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=512254&postcount=39(Thanks opuscroakus) Open TC and go into /windows rename the HTCVolumeControl.dll to HTCVolumeControl.dll.bak use TC to place the new .dll file into /windows and soft reset. After this you can delete the .bak one. (updated 11/11/08 )

**If you just want the battery meter then download the phcanOverbmp.zip open TC and rename your current one in /windows to phcanOverbmp.dll.bak, change your registry to make it working correctly (see below for settings) once you have done this, drop the new phcanOverbmp.dll you downloaded into /Windows and and softreset. After this you can delete the old .bak one**

Make sure your registry says the following:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\security\ResOver\Bitmaps]
"BatteryIconLevels"=dword:65 (Hex) or 101 (Dec)
"BatteryIconIdStart"=dword:3e9 (Hex) or 1001 (Dec)
"BaseDll"="phcanOverbmp.dll"
"BaseId"=dword:0 updated 11/12/08


For Black EV and 1X Icons
1. For the Black EV and 1X Icons download http://www.filefactory.com/file/ca2339/n/tapres_192_dll use TC to change your old tapres.192.dll to tapres.192.dll.bak then using TC place the downloaded copy into /windows, next soft reset and you can go back in and delete the .bak one




For the Custom Start Menu Icon (If you don't want the HTC Start Icon that comes with Taskbar%20Icons%20v2.cab )
1. Install Icone Demarrer.cab found herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426264
2. The icon I have is found herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2753669&postcount=203 (read post #2 in this link for other custom start icons)
3. You will have to rename whatever one you download from shellres.192.dll.0409.mui to shellres.192.dll , after this open TC and go into /windows rename the current shellres.192.dll to shellres.192.dll .bak or .old then place the one you downloaded and renamed into the /windows and soft reset. Once you have done this then you can go back in and delete the .bak one.


For the Bluetooth Icon
1. thanks dash, i had no problem changing the 'START' button on my MOGUL. all i did was use resco explorer and copy past the 'shellres.XXX'(pre-made icons) in the 'WINDOWS' folder...

im working on making my own start image and if it comes out good ill start taking requests for qvga, and if i can find a vga tester that would be great... :blob6:

for some reason the batterry icon says 20% when the phones fully charged. i followed the instructions and use the nuepowerdrivers thing as well but still starts at 20% when fully charged any ideas?

I'll test VGA for ya, sicks, i don't have a problem doing that...

i had the same problem, until i did step number 5. it worked fine after that...over

fyi speaker icon doesnt stay on pro...Its in the htcAudiocontrol.dll... i had to strip and reasign then resign dll to get it....

Help!!! Somehow my icons got screwed up after i installed step number 3... Now i get only the left half of the signal meter and nothing to the right of it before the task manager icon. Is there a way to return to the default icons? I tried to uninstall all the cabs but no luck...

ok i got the battery icon to change only thing is that the percent sign % doesnt look right , its like the battery then a few lines ontop of it insead of it say a number and a percent sign

probably because the ones in the cab are for vga and you have a qvga screen, just maybe though, because that it the same problem i faced so i uninstalled

the replace icon perfectly works on the htc touch.

hey dash im juss wonderin if you tested out the change start text, did you actually get it to work? coz if you visit the thread you can actually do it. and like it was complicated coz you had to use Mssigner or something. im juss wondering if you actually pulled it off?

what do you mean lite? Changing the icons to what? Changing them to the way the pic in the original post looks. This process requires many steps as listed above.

im sorry by lite i mean can some1 guide me thru this, ive been having trouble changing my icons and at 1st i thought it cannot be done on the sprint htc touch but i see some1 on the thread did it with ease.

just follow the instructions setp by step including overwiring files in the registery and windows folder.... i am not sure if it works on the diamond, but it worked like a charm on my PRO by following the instructions above.

i was able to change my START icon on mogul, but nothing else.. as far as taking requests on icons im having problems so as of now im still working on it..:peep:

yeah, i got mine done except for the network icon, the one above the signal bars and my start name. cant figure that one yet. other than that it looks nice. im diggin this.

On my Touch I got most of the mods to work correctly but the battery. I had it displaying the new icon with the percentage and the numbers above. But, when I looked at my batter by clicking on the icon it always showed it was empty. So it was red warning me to plug it in. So I just uninstalled all the battery mods and kept the volume and network icons. I think it looks pretty cool but I would like to get the rest of the icons to work properly. I guess I cant complain being these mods were intended for the TP and Diamond. Thanks for everyone's hard work on this. I am very happy with this!:PDT_Armataz_01_12:

In case anyone cares I was able to get the batter guage working correctly. All I did once I followed the above directions I just installed Greenbatteryfix.cab instead of nuePowerDriverCDMADiamond-100-v1.0-cab and FInixNOverBatteryIconsOnly.cab. Works perfectly now now my Touch. Again thanks to everyone who made these mods.

Nevermind I went to the original thread on ppcgeeks and saw the mods there. Now all my icons work and its complete. Thanks again guys.

For anyone with a touch if you want to change your signal icon and message icons. Just add these 2 dll files to your windows folder. With the outres.96.dll you will have to edit the original file in the windows folder to outres.96.dll.bak. Then you can paste the new file in the windows folder and soft reset. As for the CDMA_RSSI_PPC.dll file should just overwrite the original (mine did).

The file that was made for the TP was named outres.192.dll but that didnt work on the Touch. So I just changed the name to outres.96.dll. Just a FYI. I got these original file from PPCGeeks so I want to thank them for making them to begin with.

I just hope that last few posts help anyone with a Touch make these mods work. I love them its a nice touch to my touch:Elffy_20:

When I installed the nue tool it caused problems with my touch and didn't allow me to reset and it showed my battery as always charging and at 0% ...

Does the font above the battery icon look ok to you? When I did this mod on my phone the font looks corrupted and is impossible to read ...

I cant read the text over my battery either. This guide is mainly towards vga so it just wont display the same way on our qvga devices. I just live with not readying the text and looking at the actual green part of the battery. Installing the nue tools did nothing but screw up all the work I had already done installing and changing the other icons. This is why I posted not to install nue tools in dette's thread on ppcgeeks. I hope this gives you some help and answers some of your questions:)

Edit: nue tools screwed me up so bad that my phone would not soft reboot. I had to pull the battery to be able to boot properly.

OK, will just have to live with it then ... I noticed on PPCGeeks you mentioned getting them message icons changed too, I installed the file that was mentioned but don't see a change.

This could be right. I found that when I went into the windows folder (using TC) and tried to change the original file name to .bak. It didnt actually take. So to fix this I just pasted the new file (it doesnt actually paste) then after it refreshes try and change the original file name to .bak. The change will usually take then. Then go ahead and paste again and that should be it. I hope this helps.

I just tried pasting again and noticed that the file I was replacing had the same size and date/time ... maybe I am pasting the wrong one? Can someone attach the correct CDMA file?

Ok first thing is the CDMA file is for the signal icon. The outres.192.dll file is for the message icon. But, in order for this to work on a qvga device is to change it to outres.96.dll. Now, the CDMA file will overwrite no problem. Its the outres.96.dll is the one you have to go in and change the original to outres.96.dll.bak. Then you can paste the new one in there and then you'll have your new message icon.

Here is a link to the original file. Just change the name to outres.96.dll and go from there.

I just made the change on the tapres.96.dll file and now it works brilliantly.

Thanks ... wish someone could write all this into a cab so I don't have to redo all this everytime I flash lol!

ok I followed all the steps and even retraced my steps just to make sure but I still dont see the updated signal, sync, and wall plug icons. Is there something I missed? BTW the light font doesn't help to read these steps easily
