Install Notes
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Requirements: Windows Mobile 2003/SE/WM5/WM6 with GPS receiver.


Installation procedure:

a) Start installation of 'GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_42030w.exe' from PC through ActiveSync. Select your Storage Card as destination. During the installation, files will be copied to your storage card. The files should appear in '\Storage Card\Garmin\Apps\WM'.
b) Install 'GarminMobileXTSupportFiles_4xxxx.exe' for voice files.
c) Install 'GarminMobileXTFreeBasemap_4xxxx.exe' for Garmin's base map.
d) Run GarminMobileXT and record the Unit ID and use ?eygento create unlock key.
e) Save as sw.unl file.
f) Copy 'sw.unl' to '\Storage Card\Garmin'.

Will, also, after saving the sw.unl file, a soft reset is needed for the version to register itself.

On another note, since this thing affects voices, do you think we need to reinstall the 3 exe in the download or just the main exe.

EDIT: Awww i was typing in wrong build number, here are the changes made to this version

Changes made from version 4.20.20w to 4.20.30w:

* Provide additional error checking to detect corrupted NMEA input from third party GPS receivers.
* Provide increased voice prompt volume for smartphone devices.
* Provide additional coordinate location formats when selecting Where To -> Coordinates.
* Modify map drawing settings to improve the map drawing speed.

Sound seems nice one, i'll edit this post when i try it out.
Edit for sound: With my htc touch, i can now clearly hear the voice commands when listening to radio at the same time. I'd say its probly around 140% compared to before.

After you install and launch Garmin, go to Settings---->About and you'll see your Unit ID there.

Sorry for this stupid question. How can I get the "detailed" map Garmin says I need for navigation? I see major freeways and highways, but no other roads.

You need to download them. You can search some on torrents or you can ask will to give you his megauploads account so that you can get the maps.

As a side not, i tested the louder voice and for my touch, i'd say that i can now understand the directions really easily with the radio turned on.

Well, I'm not having the best of luck with the program. It is very inconsistent in its ability to wake up, and stay attached t,o my Mogul's GPS. It will only connect at all through the "intermediary driver". If I try to set it to COM4 it just changes it back.

Have you tried checking Garmin.com

If they dont have the info in their faqs or forums, you can contact their tech support and you can request info prior to buying. I had issue with my *not so legal* version of garmin and asked question as if i was considering to buy it.

First, for you gps com port. Go start setting and external gps(At least it call like that on my touch).

On the program tab, i put com 7, that one isnt that important. On the Hardware tab, Its highly suggested to put com 4 and let the baud rate at 4800.
On the access tab, check manage gps automaticaly.

In garmin, top left of the screen you should see an icon, click there. Pick the middle one, the bottom one is for garmin gps receiver and the upper one is for external bluetooth gps like i use. you should see now at the top right 5-6 bars vertically placed. That should mean your connected to a gps. As for it not staying connected, will might know some more that issue since i think he uses a mogul, but for my part, thats the best i can do. That how i have my touch setted.

for the software not being able to wake up, i'd say 9 times out of 10, i can sucessfully wake it up, but other than that, i cant seem to find out why that 1 time wont work. If you get more issues than that might be an install problem or memory problem.

Thanks Balkar. That is how I have all my settings. I'm not sure why the program loses connection to my GPS. I may do a reinstall and see if that fixes things. GoogleMaps and Live Search don't have this problem, so I don't think it is a hardware issue.

I installed the earlier verson of Garmin (4.1.1?) but tried the KAOS flash and reinstalling the latest version. But this install is different.

Did people get this when done, the first screen that loads up, at the bottom there are 4 options 1) Purchase & Go, 2) Begin Free Trial, 3) Enter Product Key, and 4) Connect to Garmin GPS.

If I go to option 3, to enter Prodcut Code, it asks for only a 8 digit code, except the kegen gives me a looooong string.


If I choose option 4), looks like I get into the software, the GPS never connects, but I'm at least able to go to About and get my Device ID.

Did I miss someting?

This if for my mogul.

Basicly, you dont register your garmin using the option number 3, you have to use notepad and create a file called sw.unl. That file has to contain the 25 didgit code the keygen has, create it using workpad or notepad. then you soft reset and it should be alright

Excellent! That did it!

Guess it wasn't clear to me that I needed to create that sw.unl file from scratch, using Notebook. Then it didn't help that Notebook put a ".txt" on the file that was hidden to me at first (didn't haved extensions visible).

But after figuring it out, it all working great! Was able to load up the Maps Will hooked me up with in the other Gamin thread!

i have the tmobile wing with a 4gb micro sd and installed all the stuff to my card but every time i run Garmin it tells me there is not enough memory available .. whats the deal anyone know i cant find anything on here that would be taking up space i have like 11-12 mb free on internal storage and program mem??????

huh no clue and your wing doesnt have gps are you using a bluetooth gps adapter??? if no this wont work on your phone.

Wait, I don't have any of those files in in this folder. Do I have to have the 20.20 version installed first? I have files that are similarly named in my 20.20 version folder but in this folder (20.30) I have a bunch of files/folders named Garmin Mobile XT 4.20.30w parts 1-10 and some other stuff but nothing near what is mentioned in the instructions above. And I've downloaded the file twice just to be sure.

Hey kaos, uploading maps on a garmin gps isnt that easy, you cant just send the map and place it on a specified folder like tomtom or IGO, you gotta run them threw mapsource which will upload them for you to your device.

My advice if you want them ASAP is to go to thepiratebay.org and download the non NT maps. THey include mapsource in there. The keygen you have with this download(in this thread) should be working to unlock the maps with mapsource. If you run into some problem, go to the 4.20.20 thread. Lots of question were asked there by me and will made some pretty clear answers.

Seriously, in the 4.20.20 thread, will did really good instruction threw first few pages, i suggest you read them there.

Basicly uncompress everything, and run mapsource(the .exe) then, load the map into map source, kinda like you open a file in word or excel... Once they are there, they should be locked, run the second thing i made you download to unlock them. Once that is done, select the map using the tool that looks like a polygone above the maps. Then, upload then to you garmin unit threw active sync. Then you should be good.

oh a wise ass huh :piss: lol. problem is those 2megaupload links. seems to be missing part 17. but i already had a torrent coming in..finished last night. also ran the unlcoker did all that crap.my issue was that when. i go to transfer to device it says select map..it showd then all unlock from dos state...but i dont see any in the list..justmain us mapp unlocked...so your saying click the name off the state?down to my last issue.btw im at work now. lmao. oh i should be so working. ill mess with gamin more tonight through map source i guess...cause i dont know nys map id YET. THAT WAS my last issue

check your folder kaos and let me know that is what you need.The only problem is what your having can't figure how to add the eastern maps to phone been playing with it and gave it up.

I just went in and tested loading the east coast maps from map source and had no problem. My download was from the megashare that Will put up a while back. Once you load up map source, zoom in on the east coast, and use the "map tool" (looks like a square pac-man, just left of the magnifing glass) and highlight the areas that you want. After you pick what you need just click the send to device button, and you're golden.

finally frigin got it to work ....woot woot...has me on my street at least lol..im at 2 says 26...but shit at least it will get me to the street with commercial routes....thank god....btw wcked the map unlocker and the reg shit messed me up..had to restore...i just used the 2008 map file cd...then used keygen to make code...worked added ny no problems at all....

so when im using the keygen, i enter the 25 digit code, get my key, open notepad, paste key, save the text file as sw.unl, copied it to StorageCard/Garmin, soft reset, an i still get that screen with the 4 options... "Purchase & Go, Begin Free Trial, Enter Product Key, Connect to a Garmin GPS"... what am i doing wrong..?? i've redone these steps several times, i've tried saving the text file as a UNL file, still nothing...???

I had the same issue too but figured it out.

For me, Notebad automatically put a ".txt" at the end of the file AND I didnt' readily see it because my File Explorer was set to not see extensions. So even though I saw the "sw.unl" file, it was really "sw.unl.txt" and it would not work.

After messing with File Explorer settings to "see file extensions", I was able to delete the ".txt" and it worked.
