You must change your settings to only show the following icons in the order shown:

Right Aligned
Connected
Phone Signal
Volume
Battery
Close/OK

Left Aligned
Start Menu

The first screenshot shows the 'connected icon' and the 2nd screenshot is disconnected. just to show you what i have done.
